Cookie Policy
EditMyDocument.com sets account and preference storage, plus a shared, non-identifying consent cookie only if you explicitly allow our optional anonymous metrics. The advertising cookies on our pages come from Google’s advertising and consent tools. This page lists them and explains how to control them.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies include local storage and pixels. Below, “cookies” covers all of them.
Cookies and storage on EditMyDocument.com
| Name or type | Set by | Purpose | Category | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Site file cache (Cache Storage) | EditMyDocument.com | Stores the site’s own program files so tools load fast and work offline. Contains no personal information or documents. | Strictly necessary | Until you clear it or the site updates |
| emd_s | EditMyDocument.com | Keeps you signed in to your optional account | Strictly necessary (accounts) | 30 days, renewed while you use the site |
| emd_a, emd_flash, emd_mfa, emd_totp_setup | EditMyDocument.com | Protect sign-in forms from forgery, show a one-time status message, and hold the short two-step verification and setup steps | Strictly necessary (accounts) | A few minutes to 30 days |
| emd_td | EditMyDocument.com | Remembers a device you chose to trust so you aren’t asked for a two-step code every time | Strictly necessary (accounts), set only at your request | 30 days |
| emd_theme, emd_noads | EditMyDocument.com | Remember your light or dark theme, and hide ads for Plus members | Preferences | Up to 1 year |
| emd-theme, emd-ann-* (local storage) and emd-me (session storage) | EditMyDocument.com | Your theme choice, which announcements you dismissed, and a 30-second copy of your sign-in state so pages load without a flash | Preferences | Until you clear your browser data (emd-me: current tab only) |
| emd_metrics (cookie) | EditMyDocument.com | Shared signed value (the same for all opted-in visitors), not a visitor ID. Issued only when you press Allow anonymous metrics; required to accept optional count events. Removed when you turn metrics off. | Optional analytics consent | 180 days unless withdrawn sooner |
| emd-metrics-consent and emd-metrics-revoke-pending (local storage) | EditMyDocument.com | Remember your affirmative choice; if cookie removal fails while offline, keep metrics off and retry removal. Neither is a visitor ID. | Optional analytics consent | Until you revoke, clear site data or consent is rejected; pending marker until cookie removal succeeds |
| FCCDCF, FCNEC | Google consent tool (Privacy & messaging) | Remember your consent and privacy choices | Strictly necessary | Up to 13 months |
| __gads, __gpi, __eoi | Google AdSense | Show and limit ads, measure ad performance, prevent fraud | Advertising | Up to 13 months |
| IDE, DSID, test_cookie, ar_debug (on doubleclick.net) | Personalize and measure ads across sites, check cookie support | Advertising | From a few minutes to 13 months | |
| Partner cookies | Ad vendors approved by Google | Ad delivery, measurement and personalization | Advertising | Set by each vendor |
Google and its partners change cookie names from time to time. Google’s cookie list has the current details, and the consent message lists every vendor.
Your choices
- Optional first-party metrics: off until you choose Allow anonymous metrics in the footer; select Turn off anonymous metrics there to withdraw consent. This is separate from ad choices.
- EEA, UK and Switzerland: on informational pages, Ad privacy choices in the footer reopens Google's consent tool when it is available. Otherwise the footer links to Privacy & ad info; you can clear site cookies and contact us for help.
- US privacy states: use a Google-provided Do Not Sell or Share link if shown, or send a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser.
- Everyone: block or delete cookies in your browser settings, visit Google Ads Settings, or use aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu.
Blocking advertising cookies doesn’t stop any tool from working. Clearing the site file cache only means files download again on your next visit.
